Q
Can Air Oasis Air Purifiers be run 24 hours a day?
A

Air Oasis Air Purifiers are designed to be run continually, 24 hours a day, with no need to monitor them. In some instances the pollutants in your indoor space may be adequately addressed by running the unit part time.

Q
What kind of maintenance is involved on Air Oasis Air Cleaners?
A

Air Oasis Air Purifiers are virtually maintenance-free. There is virtually nothing to maintain unless the device is located in a very dusty area, then we recommend wiping off the unit with a soft cloth as the unit may accumulate dust, restricting air flow.

Q
Are there filters that need to be replaced?
A

There are no expensive filters to be replaced on Air Oasis Air Purifiers. By comparison, HEPA filters can cost over $100 a year to replace. In Air Oasis units, all that ever needs replacement is a special UV lamp, the AHPCO Cell, at a cost of approximately $60, depending upon unit size. Lamps should be replaced every 3 years.

Q
How expensive are the units to operate?
A

The average operating costs for a Air Oasis Air Purifier are about 3 to 4 cents per day. By comparison, some air filters can cost $10 - $30 a month to operate, plus the cost of replacement filters.

Q
Since Air Oasis Air Purifiers do not rely on air filters, how do they clean the air?
A

Air Oasis Air Purifiers clean the air in 2 ways, inside and outside of the unit. Air inside purifier is exposed to intense germicidal UV (UVGI) light. This destroys bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other pollutants (including unpleasant odors). The resulting 'ultra-pure' air then carries its purifying results to the air and surfaces throughout your home or office. See the Technology section for more details on the synergistic components of this purification process.

Q
How effective are Air Oasis Air Purifiers on tobacco or cigarette smoke?
A

There are two components to tobacco smoke: 1) The smoke itself, which is actually an airborne particulate matter; and 2) the chemical fumes and odors. Negative ions help remove the smoke particulate from the air, while the highly active oxygen 'scrubbers', purifying hydroxyls, hydro peroxides, super oxides, and ozonides actually neutralize the chemical fumes and destroy the odors. There should be a noticeable improvement if the right sized unit is employed. It should be noted that a more powerful or additional unit may be recommended for use in dwellings with cigarette or cigar smokers.

Q
Will the unit remove smoke and other odors from clothing furniture?
A

Yes, but depending upon how saturated the fabric is, it may take anywhere from 1 to 48 hours.

Q
Do the units work to get rid of mold and mildew?
A

Yes. The ultraviolet light will kill mold spores that enter the unit, and the 'ultra-pure' air that is circulated by the unit is also fungicidal, meaning it will kill fungi like mold and mildew.

Q
Do these units produce nitric oxide?
A

Since Air Oasis units use UV light to produce ozone, and not the corona discharge method, no nitric oxides or contingent by products are produced.

Q
Are some people over-sensitive to ozone?
A

About 2% of the population do exhibit hypersensitivity to ozone, to varying degrees. Even the extremely low levels of ozone generated by the AHPCO Cell (typically .01-.015 ppm) may produce symptoms of over-ozonization in these individuals.

Q
How will a Air Oasis Air Purifier work with other filtration or air cleaning devices I already use?
A

It is a great idea. The different units will only compliment each other, reducing the contaminant load on each unit and making each more effective than if used alone.

Q
Is there any research supporting the effectiveness of Air Oasis Air Purifiers?
A

In addition to volumes of research supporting the use of ultraviolet light, ozone and other active oxygen atoms, hydroxyl radicals, and negative ions, in air and surface purification, Air Oasis has independent test results to support the effectiveness of its units. See the Test Results.

Q
How can I tell if the Air Oasis Air Purifier is really working?
A

This depends on your individual circumstances. Concerning the elimination of unpleasant odors, improvement could be noticeable within minutes - or results could take several hours. People with allergies and hay fever should see a marked improvement in a very short period of time. People with animals in their homes should also be able to notice a dramatic reduction in pet odors within hours. Many health benefits, however, are less overt and can only be noticed and evaluated over longer periods of time. Sometimes, though, people do not report a difference in their air when using one of our purifiers. In these instances, what happens is that people become so accustomed to an odor or quality of air that they don't even realize that their home or office has an odor - they've simply gotten used to it. With these people, there is often no 'shock' of immediate improvement that they can ascertain. And, as the unit begins to work, they also adjust to the steady improvement in air quality. Usually, though, once they get used to clean, pure air, they do notice a difference if they stop using the Air Oasis unit. All the old odors usually return pretty quickly if the source has not been removed, and are then extremely noticeable. That's why we often have customers who have a unit in their homes for a few weeks, return it because they didn't notice a difference, and then call us back a few days later because the old pollutants have returned - and they notice that!

Q
How do I figure out what model is best for me?
A

In general, the area (volume, 8' ceilings are assumed) covered is listed with the product description. This is just a baseline estimate. If you have allergies, pets, or smokers in your home or office, you may actually need a larger unit. For a 2000 sq. ft. home with pets, an Air Oasis 3000 would be suitable. If, additionally, members of the household smoke, the Air Oasis 3000X and/or additional 500/1000 units may be required.

Q
Can ozone be dangerous?
A

Yes, but only when occurring in extremely high concentrations - levels that the AHPCO Cells in Air Oasis Air Purifiers are incapable of producing. The Federal Government and other agencies have set safety guidelines, Ozone concentrations of 0.05 - 0.10 ppm. Air Oasis Air Purifiers produce between 0.01 ppm and .015 ppm. Reports and studies that raise questions about the safety of ozone deal with ozone levels at or above the recommended concentrations

Q
Is the cost of an Air Oasis unit covered by Insurance?
A

Many insurance carriers, as well as Medicare and Medicaid, may reimburse you for the cost of a prescribed and medically necessary air purification device.

Q
Will my family get fewer colds and flu if I have an Air Oasis Air Cleaner in my home?
A

While there have been no official studies to confirm this, independent lab tests have confirmed a remarkable reduction in airborne and surface bacteria, when an Air Oasis Air Purifier is used. Since the majority of colds and flu are caught indoors, an overall reduction in contagions in the air and on things you and your family touch should certainly have a positive effect.

Q
Will an Air Oasis Air Purifier cure allergies and asthma?
A

Air Oasis Air Purifiers will not cure allergies or asthma or other breathing problems. They are not designed specifically for the treatment or prevention of any health problem or ailment. However, it has been shown that most asthma and allergy sufferers do benefit greatly from the pollutant reduction these units provide. Mold, pollen, dust, animal dander, dust mites, chemical gases, and other common allergens are all effectively reduced in an Air Oasis environment.

Q
Can I discontinue using my asthma/allergy prescription after I purchase an Air Oasis Air Purifier?
A

The short answer is, no. The Air Oasis Air Purifiers effectively eliminate or neutralize many contaminants that trigger an asthma attacks or allergic reactions from your environment. If your prescription is used on an 'as needed' basis, like many inhalers, you MAY find that 'as needed' is less frequent. In this case you should discuss with your doctor ANY possible changes to your treatment

Q
What is Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and is really a problem?
A

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has declared Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) the nation's worst environmental health problem, even worse than outdoor air pollution. A significant increase in asthma and hay fever corresponds to an increased level of allergens and irritants in our homes and offices, poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)

Q
What the Experts Say about IAQ
"the air within homes can be more polluted than outdoor air in even the largest cities."
A

"... the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors rather than outdoors." EPA Document #402-K-93-007, April 1995
Read what the Environmental Protection Agency says in a new window

Q
Does my Home or Office have an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) problem?
A

Given the sheer number of potential sources of poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), it is very likely that you have a moderate IAQ problem. Surprisingly, homes or offices built in the last 20 years, are more likely to have a severe IAQ problem. In an effort to increase energy efficiency in our edifices, engineers and builders have sealed the "leaks" that allowed the constant mixing of cleaner outdoor air with our indoors air.

Q
What contaminants contribute to poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)?
A

Household cleansers, laundry detergents, air fresheners, aerosols, insects & insecticides, pet hair, dander, and litter boxes, cigarette smoke, food, dust (dust mites), people (dead skin, hair, perfume, etc.), carpet, construction materials, and anything moist can grow more. Additionally, items such as bedding/linens and furniture, even HVAC systems, can trap and collect contaminants.

Q
How does ozone work?
A

Nature creates ozone (O3) with lightning or UV light from the sun. Ozone is highly reactive, destroying bacteria, fungi, and viruses in addition to oxidizing (burning) pollutants. Reactions with ozone generally produce pure oxygen (O2), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen (H2), and/or water (H2O). Naturally occurring or generated, ozone is possibly the greatest purification element we have available to deal with man-made pollutants. Our Air Oasis Air Purifiers use a specially designed AHPCO Cells to generate ozone AND limit its production to no more than .015 ppm.

Q
How do negative ions work?
A

Negative ions have been linked directly and indirectly to better health. Negative ions have been shown to increase oxygenation of the lungs and lower complaints of general aches, pains, lethargy and depression. Additionally, investigators at the EPA have shown how particles charged by combining with negative ions tend to attach to grounded surfaces such as ceilings, walls, and floors. This electro-static attraction effectively removes otherwise inhalable airborne toxins (nitrates, sulfates, auto emissions and more) from your breathable air. See the Methodologies section under Air Purification Technology for more details.

Q
What makes Air Oasis Air Purification Technology better than others?
A

Air Oasis has developed an exciting technology called nano Nickel HCT that effectively fuese seven (7) of the most effective purification elements into a single unit. See the Methodologies section under Air Purification Technology for more details.

Q
How do Air Oasis Air Purifiers compare to other ozone generators / negative ion generators?
A

Air Oasis air purifiers do not use glass plates like some negative ion and ozone generators. As a result, they do not require maintenance, and do not produce nitrogen oxides like air cleaners that do use glass plates. nitrogen oxides can result in a "metallic" or "bleach-like" odor. These byproducts can also serve as a minor lung irritant even if occurring in low concentrations. Air Oasis Air Purifiers, instead use a safe, regulated, low voltage control system to power a highly tuned ultraviolet lamp. The energy emitted from the lamp induces the creation of ozone. The AHPCO Cell, then ensures only low levels of ozone (less than .015 ppm) return to the breathable air.

Q
Is an Air Oasis Air Purifier better than a HEPA air filter?
A

First and foremost, a HEPA air filter is simply that, a filter. It can only remove particles as small as 0.3 microns from the air that passes through it, while Air Oasis units can remove particles as small as 0.01 microns from the air inside the purifying chamber as well as the air and surfaces outside the chamber. HEPA filters are fragile glass-fiber filters that MUST be replaced when dirty. Maintenance on the Air Oasis Air Purifiers is as simple as wiping it free of dust with a soft cloth when needed.
